Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger (騎士竜戦隊リュウソウジャーKishiryū Sentai Ryūsōjā) is a Japanese tokusatsu television series and the 43rd entry of Toei's long-running Super Sentai series, following Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger and succeeding the four week special Super Sentai Strongest Battle. It was the last Heisei era series, as filming commenced and the first seven episodes were aired in the Heisei era. Starting with the eighth episode of the series became the first of the franchise to air in the Reiwa era. [1] It is the fourth Super Sentai to utilize the motif of dinosaurs, having been preceded by Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger (and Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger Brave), as well as the first to utilize the motif of knights. The show premiered on March 17, 2019 joining Kamen Rider Zi-O in the Super Hero Time line-up on TV Asahi affiliate stations, making it the first Super Sentai series to not debut in February since Gekisou Sentai Carranger.[2][3][4] Beginning in August 2019, it will begin airing in South Korea as Power Rangers Dino Soul.

Story[edit]
65 million years ago, the knights of the Ryusoul Tribe were selected to participate in a war campaign against the dictating Druidon Tribe who sought to rule Earth. But the Druidon's war campaign was halted by the meteor that brought the age of the dinosaurs to an end, forcing them to flee into space. Meanwhile, the Kishiryu were placed in a deep sleep as a failsafe should the Druidon return. The chosen knights choose to live in peace while passing their mantle down across generations. In the present day, the Druidon return to reclaim Earth as the current generation of knights, the Ryusoulgers, battle them with the support of Ui Tatsui and her father Naohisa Tatsui.[2][3][4]
Characters[edit]
Ryusoulgers[edit]
The Ryusoulgers are members of the Ryusoul Tribe (リュウソウ族Ryūsō-zoku), an ancient race that existed since the age of the dinosaurs. The Ryusoul Tribe made their home in an isolated mountain village in Aokigahara where they pass the Ryusoulger mantle from master to apprentice while safeguarding the temple holding the Kishiryu (騎士竜Kishiryū), sentient beings created by the Ryusoul Tribe as a countermeasure to the Druidon Tribe that can assume stronger forms via Ryusoul Combination (竜装合体Ryūsō Gattai). When the Druidon return to Earth, the current Ryusoulgers are forced to leave their home. The Ryusoulgers use the key-like Ryusouls (リュウソウルRyūsōru) with the wrist-mounted Ryusoul Changers (リュウソウチェンジャーRyūsō Chenjā) to transform, as well as the sword-like Ryusoulken (リュウソウケンRyūsōken) sidearms to either access special abilities or perform the powerful Dino Slash (ディーノスラッシュDīno Surasshu) finisher.
- Koh (コウKō)[5]
- The 209-year-old[6] energetic and curious squire of Master Red (マスターレッドMasutā Reddo) who becomes the current Ryusoul Red (リュウソウレッドRyūsō Reddo). As the Brave Knight (勇猛の騎士Yūmō no Kishi), his primary Kishiryu is the Tyrannosaurus Rex-like Tyramigo (ティラミーゴTiramīgo) who can transform into Kishiryuoh (キシリュウオーKishiryūō) with the ability to alter its weapon placements for combat via Joint Change (ジョイントチェンジJointo Chenji). Tyramigo can also equip the other Kishiryu in various formations, such as Kishiryuoh Three Knights (キシリュウオースリーナイツKishiryūō Surī Naitsu) and Kishiryuoh Five Knights (キシリュウオーファイブナイツKishiryūō Faibu Naitsu). Koh later acquires the Dimetrodon-like Kishiryu Dimevolcano (ディメボルケーノDimeborukēno), whose personal Ryusoul enables him to access a special armor with fire-based abilities.
- Melto (メルトMeruto)[7]
- Koh's composed and studious childhood friend with blue hair and the squire of Master Blue (マスターブルーMasutā Burū) who becomes the current Ryusoul Blue (リュウソウブルーRyūsō Burū). As the Wise Knight (叡智の騎士Eichi no Kishi), his Kishiryu is the Triceratops-like Tricern (トリケーンTorikēn) who can reconfigure Kishiryuoh Three Knights into Kishiryuoh Tricern (キシリュウオートリケーンKishiryūō Torikēn) where it gains enhanced agility.
- Asuna (アスナ)[8]
- Koh's honest childhood friend with superhuman strength born from a noble family and the squire of Master Pink (マスターピンクMasutā Pinku) who becomes the current Ryusoul Pink (リュウソウピンクRyūsō Pinku). As the Vigorous Knight (剛健の騎士Gōken no Kishi), her Kishiryu is the Ankylosaurus-like Ankirose (アンキローゼAnkirōze) who can reconfigure Kishiryuoh Three Knights into Kishiryuoh Ankirose (キシリュウオーアンキローゼKishiryūō Ankirōze) where it gains enhanced endurance.
- Towa (トワ)[9]
- A confident and competitive knight who is Bamba's younger brother and the current Ryusoul Green (リュウソウグリーンRyūsō Gurīn). As the Gale Knight (疾風の騎士Shippū no Kishi), his Kishiryu is the Smilodon-like Tigerance (タイガランスTaigaransu), also known as a Tigersaurus (タイガーサウルスTaigāsaurusu), who can combine with Kishiryuoh Three Knights to form Kishiryuoh Tigerance (キシリュウオータイガランスKishiryūō Taigaransu) where it gains enhanced speed.[10]
- Bamba (バンバBanba)[11]
- A quiet and unfriendly knight with master-level combat skills who is Towa's older brother and the current Ryusoul Black (リュウソウブラックRyūsō Burakku). As the Regal Knight (威風の騎士Ifū no Kishi), his Kishiryu is the Miragaia-like Millneedle (ミルニードルMirunīdoru), also known as a Needlesaurus (ニードルサウルスNīdorusaurusu), who can combine with Kishiryuoh Three Knights to form Kishiryuoh Millneedle (キシリュウオーミルニードルKishiryūo Mirunīdoru) where it gains enhanced strength.[12]
- Canalo (カナロKanaro)[13][14]
- A descendant of the Sea Ryusoul Tribe (海のリュウソウ族Umi no Ryūsō-zoku), a splintered faction of the Ryusoul Tribe that wished to avoid conflict with the Druidon Tribe in the past by living peacefully under the sea. As his tribesmen are very few in number, Canalo comes ashore to find a spouse. In contrast to the main five Ryusoulgers, he transforms into Ryusoul Gold (リュウソウゴールドRyūsō Gōrudo) via the gun-like Mosa Changer (モサチェンジャーMosa Chenjā). His main weapon is the dagger-like Mosa Blade (モサブレードMosa Burēdo), which can combine with the Mosa Changer to form the Mosa Breaker (モサブレイカーMosa Bureikā) in order to perform the Final Thunder Shot (ファイナルサンダーショットFainaru Sandā Shotto) finisher. As the Glorious Knight (栄光の騎士Eikō no Kishi), his primary Kishiryu is the Mosasaurus-like Mosarex (モサレックスMosarekkusu) who can combine with the Ammonite-like Ammoknuckles (アンモナックルズAnmonakkuruzu) to form Kishiryu Neptune (キシリュウネプチューンKishiryū Nepuchūn). Mosarex and the Ammoknuckles can also combine with Dimevolcano to form the Spinosaurus-like Spinothunder (スピノサンダーSupinosandā), whose personal Ryusoul enables Canalo to access a special armor with lightning-based abilities.
Allies[edit]
- Ui Tatsui (龍井 ういTatsui Ui)
- A vlogger who lied about visiting far off locations on her videos while helping her father find evidence of the Ryusoul Tribe's existence, encountering the Ryusoulgers as a result and offering her family's home to them. Having been exposed to Kureon's slime, Ui was a host to the Medusa Minosaur (メドゥーサマイナソーMedūsa Mainasō) before she was saved when the monster was destroyed by Kishiryuoh Three Knights.
- Naohisa Tatsui (龍井 尚久Tatsui Naohisa)
- Ui's father, a paleontologist who learned of the existence of both the Kishiryu and the Ryusoul Tribe and sought scientific proof, offering the Ryusoulgers use of his laboratory as their base.
- Oto (オト)
- Canalo's 123-year-old younger sister. Once meeting the other Ryusoulgers, she falls in love with Melto and asks him to be her husband.
Druidon Tribe[edit]
The Warfare Tribe Druidon (戦闘民族ドルイドンSentō Minzoku Doruidon) are a race of evil monsters lead by chess piece-themed generals who existed alongside the Ryusoul Tribe and sought world dominion before they were forced to flee into space during the extinction era of the dinosaurs. However, having continued their campaign on various planets, the Druidons return to Earth to resume their conquest of it.
- Kureon (クレオン)
- A laid-back Druidon with a mushroom-shaped head and a body made of slime which can reform whenever he is destroyed. He usually supports the stronger Druidon members by using his slime on ideal people to spawn Minosaurs from.
- Tankjoh (タンクジョウTankujō)
- A merciless rook-themed Druidon warrior who killed Master Red while leading the Druidons' first attack on Earth upon their return; desiring to wipe out the Ryusoulgers and conquer Earth. He is armed with the broadsword-like Rooclaymore (ルークレイモアRūkureimoa) and is able to fire the Castlingrander (キャスリングランダーKyasuringurandā) from his chest-mounted cannon. After absorbing seismic energy, Tankjoh was able to increase the destructive power of his latter weapon while his death would release it all in a destructive wave. Tankjoh ends up being destroyed by Kishiryuoh Five Knights after being blasted into the stratosphere to keep his stored seismic energy from destroying the city.
- Waizuru (ワイズルーWaizurū)
- An egotistical bishop-themed Druidon sorcerer who takes over the Druidons' attack on Earth after Tankjoh's death, armed with a staff. After Gachireus arrived on Earth, Waizuru was temporarily relieved of command until the general's defeat.
- Gachireusu (ガチレウスGachireusu)
- An arrogant rook-themed Druidon general bent on the Ryusoul Tribe's destruction, sending Waizuru away when he immediately took over the Druidon's invasion of Earth. He possesses the Gachiraid Cannons (ガチレイド砲Gachireido Hō) on his shoulders and his Screw Claw (スクリュークローSukuryū Kurō) gauntlets. Possessing the ability to increase his strength after taking an attack and learn an enemy's attack pattern, Gachireus overpowers the Ryusoulgers once he learns enough of their techniques to challenge them. However, he is destroyed by Kishiryu Neptune, whom he never fought previously.
- Dorun Soldiers (ドルン兵Dorun-hei)
- Knight-like pawn-themed foot soldiers with shields strapped to their backs and armed with spears.
- Minosaurs (マイナソーMainasō)
- Mythical creature-themed monsters that are spawned from a human's negative emotions and drain the host's life energy to reach their full-size. Some occur naturally while others are produced by Kureon targeting ideal humans and sliming them.
Others[edit]
- Gaisorg (ガイソーグGaisōgu)
- An animated suit of armor who previously appeared in Super Sentai Strongest Battle to hunt suitable candidates for possession before it was willingly worn by the sorceress Rita. After she was defeated, the armor was retrieved by a mysterious person in the aftermath.
